Strapping wireless cameras to cows.

It's a hell of a lot more difficult than I imagined, but for reasons I hadn't anticipated.

We're still in the middle of grabbing more footage, but if ya'll are interested in seeing some unadulterated bovine film, head to...

mootube.com

We used surveillance bullet cams, 2.4 ghz transmitter and receivers, then duct-taped and zip-tied everything to a halter. The problem is, the transmitters give out a weak signal and have an annoying tendency to break without too much help from the cow. We tossed a generator in the back of a 4X4, along with the receivers, a cooler full of... beverages... and the custom PC with the capture software.

By far the most frustrating aspect of the project has been keeping the signal strong enough to capture decent footage. Cows seem to have an inherent sixth sense that tells them when you most need them to stay together in a bunch.

Regardless, it's been fun. The mosquitoes are brutal, but it's been fun.
