All crew members are hired—cinematographer, gaffers, grips, makeup, sound, etc.

Equipment is rented or owned (camera, lighting, sound gear, etc.).

Sets are built or dressed, locations are prepared, and everything is ready to shoot.

The director interprets the script and leads the on-set creative vision.

They work closely with the cinematographer (DP), actors, and first assistant director (1st AD) to manage time and performance.

The director doesn’t plan everything during production, much of the plan is made during pre-production (e.g., shot lists, storyboards, blocking ideas).
