Researching your Subject

In Syd Fields Screenplay Book "The Foundations of Screenwriting" He talks about doing researching your Subject.
"Too many people start writing their material with only a vague, half-formed idea in their heads. This works for about thirty pages and then falls apart"
 
It is very important to research your subject before writing your script. If you do no research, how could that script be accurate? But you are correct, most people do not do this and this is why the end product is flawed :)
 
If you do not research your subject, how can you write about it? It is like writing about something that you have no idea about...
