My cast is having second thoughts about making an upcoming film. They are my friends, so they're my only hope for making the film. What can i do to keep them in the production?

Peace

I hear ya. Getting friends involved is always tricky because they rarely have the drive or motivation to do anything with it. Hell when I was making the cross country vid for high school a few years back we had one kid who could do this hilarious spidermanesque jump and cling to the fence of the baseball dugout. So I knew I had to get that and make a goofy spiderman like trailer with it but I had to pull his teeth to get him to do it on tape. I think you should tell them how much it means to you and ask "why not?"

If the cast and crew are having second thoughts, then maybe their second thoughts are an indication that something should be restructured?

You know, restructuring in terms of story, character development etc.

As a producer and/or director, you're going to have to utilize different channels of communication in an orchestrated manner to keep everyone convinced of the production's significance. Since they know you personally, they should be more receptive, but if the story sucks, and they don't relate to their characters, you'll have to drag them through the production process kicking and screaming. Keep them together, and on the same page with you, not against you.

Luck...

You would be right in most cases. However, the cast has not even read the script and only have a vague idea of the story. I don't think they lost interest in making THIS film, but just making films in general. I guess theres nothing left to do but find new actors . . .

Having friends who share similar interests, and have the same determination to see those interests through to a success is a rarity.

I'm fortunate enough to have friends who share similar interests, but our determination differs. In many instances, our friendship is what facilitates the production process, we're not afraid to communicate ideas.
But, there are always instances where the determination to seize a particular sequence is of more signifance to one person than the other.

I've found that once I see them excited, I immediately become affected, and it's vice versa, but initially, it's always a little difficult to overcome individual preconceptions.
