Lightning in After Effects

Hey guys, I am posting to this forum as I am currently editing a short film that requires lightning in it and I was wondering what the best way to go about this is. I have tried the after effect lightning and it doesn't really fit well asn it looks too comical. If any wizards out there had some information as to how to create realistic fork lighting please let me know via this thread.

honestly, after effects is probably the best way to create lighting in post.

After Effects is very good to correct lightning in post editing, however you need to learn how to do color grading. You can also look for online filters, there are plenty of them out there.
