shoointg/lightning effect

HI,

I am in a film class in school and am in need of an effect. I am trying to make it looking like a beam/laser/lightning bolt w/e is shooting out of a device. Any way to do this? We are using Avid xpress pro.

Basically I am trying to make it "shoot" out an object in someones hand.

If it's only a few frames, you could export them as image files, draw the 'beam' on there with a paint program and then import them back and replace the original frames with the new ones.

If it was me i would not even use avid and draw in paint. It will look too cheap. Get adobe after effects and learn how to use masks. In fact go to youtube and type in after effects and you will see a bunch off tutorials that will give you and idea on how to work on your beam. Good luck!
