Hey guys,
This is my first post on the site, so hello! I was hoping someone could shed some light on a few things for me.

1- I have a project coming up and am trying to figure out what 35mm camera to use. I am looking for something within 8,000 (for purchase) that will be sturdy and give me a great look. It will be used for shooting some test footage (think Nosforatu).

2- I would like to edit this the "old way" but I really dont know where to begin looking. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Omni,

For sturdy and under $8-grand, you're looking at an MOS package. A good bet is the Arri IIc, which you can find starting around 4K.

These are solid, high quality cameras, and they're readily hand-holdable. I just checked Visual Products and found this crystal package with 3 primes for $5300. Their prices are reasonable and their senior technician has a sterling reputation. ( I have no association with them, other than being a satisfied customer.)

If you're editing the "old way," you can either rent time in an editing suite or buy the essentials and work at home. I haven't purchased from The Boston Connection, but they're listed as an editing equipment supplier and they have a 1-picture / 1-sound Moviola upright for $900. (Better to get the 1-picture / 2-sound console for $1200). Here's their page:

Hope this answers your queries sufficiently. Good luck in your film-making endeavors!
