newbie question: how to get going in cinematography?

Hi,

I don't know if this belongs in the cinematography section or newbie section..but here it goes.

I'd like to get into cinematography. I wanted to hear from people in this profession and see if they went to school, took a few classes, interned with someone, or just worked their way up. I went to school for commercial photography but dropped out after 2 years because of finances and am ready to pick the ball up again. Really what I've always wanted to go into was cinematography....

Thanks for your thoughts,

I started shooting my own stuff in high school, so by the time I went to film school when I was 26, I was fairly experienced with the camera and with lighting, so got asked to shoot a lot of student projects.

After film school, I started shooting low-budget features a year later (in 1992), at first with fellow graduates or their friends and associates, then I just moved up the budget ladder over time (30 features to date.)
