Marvel Recreation Universe Part 4 (Events and Related Projects)

A continuation of our Marvel Recreation Universe Related Projects/ My Filmmaking Journey Series.

For those who don’t know: Marvel Recreation Universe is a cinematic experience that collages 1 Scene Recreation from every single Marvel movie (Avengers 2012- Spider-Man Far from Home 2019) into one singular powerful story and film.

We started out with with friends filming in a Studio, and ended up working with Professional Cosplayers and actors from all over the world.

Recreation Universe Scene Recreation Contest Highlights and Winners:

The Recreation Universe Scene Recreation Contest COMPILATION AND WINNERS Announcement video is here!!

Featuring over 6+ Scene Recreations, and incredible creative work from talented artists all over the world.

This Scene Recreation Contest actually ended up differently then I was originally anticipating:

When the Contest began, I invited creators to create Recreations for the Contest and contacted Filmmakers who had Created Scene Recreations on their own initiative without knowing about the Contest during the time i was accepting submissions.

Interestingly enough, not a single Creator completed a Scene Recreation specifically for the Contest, so instead this Competition promotes all of the incredible people who created amazing Recreations on their own and allowed me to enter them in to the Contest.

Also, this was a rare scenario, as out of everyone I contacted to feature their Recreation in the Contest, only 1 person declined.

Final Note: This Contest features an A:I Generated Recreation in the COMPILATION. I have agreed to have this entry in the Contest for three reasons:

1. It is designed to look like Live-Action, and not Stop-Motion or animation

2. It is pushing technology to see if it is possible to help A:I create a trailer from one of the most technology breakthrough movies of all time: Jurassic Park.

3. Though it was generated with A:I, the Creator still had to guide the A:I with many different programs and many adjustments to the footage

Thank you, Maura! Apologies for the unusually delayed response, the Success Recreation Universe is having has brought some unexpected backlash and consequences. It may take me longer than usual to respond to comments...

It was an honor to showcase other Filmmakers who are Recreating and give them a boost forward and recognition for their hard work that they deserve!
I
am grateful that many talented creators agreed to show their Recreations and be a part of the contest.

Matt Williamson, the Director of the Deadpool and Wolverine Trailer Recreation told me that he framed his 1st place Certificate and put it on the wall in his office.

I am grateful that many talented creators agreed to let me show highlights of their Recreations and be a part of the Competition.

This event is extra special as well, because My older Brother got to be involved with it as the other Contest Judge for the contest.

I have been trying to get him involved with something related to Recreation Universe (besides being Behind the Scenes as a Producer) for a long time now.

He almost played a role in MRU, but the timing did not work out.

It was great to have his insight and involvement help decide who the Winners of the Contest were.

It's thrilling to think about the growing possibilities for the future!
I have some exciting projects releasing before the end of the year, including my longest video ever!

Recreation Universe has reached 1K Subscribers!! To celebrate, I am releasing the never before seen Blooper Reel from MRU.

The energy on Set for MRU was a constant rhythm of good fun and well crafted performances.

My motto on Set, was serious on Scene, and light and laughing in between takes and camera shot set-ups.

Actors were encouraged to be vibrant in between sequences, and intense and in character for the scenes.

This created a zig zag efect, where the fun creative energy did not stop during the Principal Photography of MRU.

It's this atmosphere that I wanted to capture and transport to the screen with this Blooper Reel.
Originally the Blooper Reel contained actors missing lines, and times we moved into the wrong position in camera, but that Blooper Reel turned out to be incredibly boring, and I removed these moments, and re-edited the Reel to properly capture the tone and unique atmosphere on Set.

I synced the Reel to a song my Older Brother Bob likes to listen to, that properly captured the feelings of creating these Recreations Behind the Scenes.

(Good news: my internet issues have been fixed, and I can now reply to the comments much quicker as in the past.)

I was told I was too silly to be a Film Director. It caused me to delay releasing the Blooper Reel until after 1K subs, that way people against MRU can't point and claim that it was a more silly Production from the beginning, and would not have ever succeeded anyway.

Now that R:U is doing better, I feel more comfortable revealing some of the more Silly Behind the Scenes moments behind the making of MRU.

Congratulations on reaching 1K subscribers, Dustin! It’s great to see your hard work and creative energy paying off. The way you fostered a fun yet focused atmosphere on set sounds like a fantastic approach to filmmaking. Looking forward to watching the blooper reel and seeing more of your journey. Keep up the great work!

Thank you, Maura! It is a joy to see The Recreations reaching a new level of Success, and honoring to see it it reaching new people ever day.
Thank you!

Thank you for all your kind and thoughtful comments on this Journey, it would not be possible without your encouragement and support.

Another missing link in the MRU Behind the Scenes chain is coming soon. I'll be posting the never before seen Deleted Scenes from MRU this Saturday.

The Marvel Recreation Universe Deleted Scenes.

The Marvel Recreation Universe Deleted Scenes are here!

The Biggest question I'm sure people have, is why these did not release with the other MRU behind the Scenes content: The answer is simple:
These scenes required the VFX to be restored in the sequences that way they could be watched, and after completing MRU, I took a break from VFX heavy Scenes.

After over 4 years from Principal Photography finished on these sequences, I decided it was time to go back and make these great cut scenes watchable.

These are 4 moments that were in my original pitch to the actors, and feature four key and powerful moments recreated from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Reasons these Scenes were cut from the Film: (Best to read after watching the Scenes.)

1. Winter Soldier throws Shield at Captain America: (Winter Soldier)

This Sequence was cut because it required a digital Captain America Shield in a scene that was meant to have very basic effects featured in it, Muzzle Flashes, and Color grading.

I cut this sequence that way the VFX in the Winter Soldier Scene Recreation were not advanced and I could save the more complex editing for the Compositing the upcoming Doctor Strange Scene Recreation and other more VFX heavy Scenes like the Thor vs Hulk Thor Ragnarok Scene Recreation.

2. Tony Stark comes out of his Iron Man armor: (Spider-Man Homecoming)

Again fairly similar reasons, this sequence featured a VFX complex effect of Tony stepping out of his Iron Man armor in what was meant to be a simple dialogue editing Scene.
I spaced the Scenes out from dialogue = simpler editing to Action Scenes in front of Blue Screen =more Complex Action Scenarios, that way the editing of the Film was manageable.

Being the only editor on the production,(Minus the Avengers Endgame Cosplayers Scene Recreation) I needed to be moving back and forth from easy and difficult Scenes that way the editing was possible. I gave myself a week for each Scene (Iron Man 3 - Thor Ragnarok)
that way I finished the project and did not get lost in the details on one Scene and lost the momentum of the production.

3. Captain America vs Spider-Man (Captain America: Civil War)

Too much VFX to handle right after the Doctor Strange bargains Scene Recreation)

4. Ant-Man Shrinks (Ant-Man)

This Scene was cut because I already had most of what I needed for the Ant-Man Scene Recreation. I created all the shots for the trailer first, that way I would have a good idea of how many sequences would turn out in the end before compositing each individual shot for each scene and the Ant-Man running away from Water Shot was already complete for the trailer.

So it was easier to create the shots after that shot, rather then the Ant-Man shrinks part which has many shots before Ant-Man runs from the water.

This collection of Deleted Scenes revives the best Cut moments moments from the Film:

Amazing work, Dustin! The dedication and effort you put into MRU is truly inspiring. Excited to see these restored scenes!

Thank you, Maura! It's great to see these Cut Scenes finally restored. Especially the Spider-Man vs Captain America Sequence as that was Jon's favorite Scene after filming and I know he was disappointed when it got cut from the Film.

Fun fact:

There were more shots after the Winter Soldier throws the shield where Captain America runs at him to continue the battle, but due to the 3 of us filming on the hottest day of the year Jon, Mike on camera, (Iron Man from the Battle for New York and Iron Man 3 Scene Recreations,) and myself all forgot a key detail in the scene:

We filmed these shots with Captain America holding his shield when the Winter Soldier had just thrown his shield into a car in the previous shot.

I will be making an announcement about what is next after MRU and the future of Recreation Universe later this week!

I have officially retired from Recreating.

Scene Recreating takes more time then most content to make:

Typically, the range is 16 hours for 10 seconds. While that is great for Films, for a YouTube Channel with videos designed to entertain a YouTube audience, it is proving incompatible.

I have tested and in those same 16 hours I can create shorts about facts from Movies that take 1 -2 hours to make, and gain more audience engagement/subscribers then the Recreations videos ever do.

The YouTube Channel's continuing success will help my Future Films in the time ahead.

I’ll be creating 10 minute videos on the channel moving forward based on another passion of mine: Behind the Scenes Movie Facts, educating and entertaining people on how movies I greatly respect are made.

I’m proud of the Recreations.
I got the opportunity to collaborate with many people I look up to, and the response to MRU has been nothing but positivity/ love and very gratifying and unexpected for this independent Production.

To put it in better context, Dustin McLean, the Master of Scene Recreations, and our Guest Star- Mysterio in our Far From Home Scene Recreation recently created a video about why he stopped Recreating over 10 years ago. Most of what he says mirrors my experience with Recreating:
