Ok, here's the set up. I've recently have taken up video processing using a client's Canon GL2, I got a Mac Book Pro 2GHz INtel Core Duo, 2GB RAM, on a Mac OS X 10.4.9. I'm using Final Cut Pro version 3. Now, I've noticed that when I do log and capture feature to feed the DV into my mac hard drive, it get's these pause moments. I had to turn off drop frame and code break abort because it kept doing that. Why is it I can't record it onto my mac so I can start editing. Once the first pause happens and I play it back on FCP3 program, it totally goes out of syn with audio. What's causing that? Do I have to have a specific set up in FCP 3 to make it work and record smoothly? Do I need to have a better external hard drive to be able to record? I have enough scratch disk on my 80GB hard drive. It's frustrating. I used to have a desktop G4 that blew up a long time ago but worked well previously in recording from this GL2 camera, but I thought MacBook Pro's should record digital camera via firewire just fine. What's going on? Thanks

this may be a shot in the dark, but it might be because FCP 3 is not universal binary. it is made for macs with power pc processors. I mean, FCP 3 is so old, it was on OS 9.

Hello there, I appreciate you replying. I figured that's probably the case of this FCP3 that it is soo old. But, good news is, I'm getting a $7,000 Mac Pro which includes FCP Studio or 6 so that's definitely going to speed production like no other. I just wanted to see if there was anything I can in the mean time. So, thanks again. Take care.

P.S. yes, I think you maybe right about FCP3 being made for OS9 as the installer had both the os 9 and os X installer. I'm sure the latest one will just be blazing fast on anything especially on the Mac Pro 3MHz Dual System. I can't wait till it is shipped. Thanks again for your thought.
