Hey what's going on out there in cyberlandia? I was just wondering if anyone could help me out with exporting a 5 minute video onto the web.. the video must be 100mb or smaller, and as for dimensions I guess it could be 320x240 or a little bigger preferably ... h.264 is the best compressor correct? I'm using fcp 5.0HD. If someone could please help me adjust the settings for export it'd be greatly appreciated. I tried using compressor but it takes forever to compress. Thanks a lot guys.

You have few options for this.

If using FC5 then yes saving an mpeg4 would be the better option.

But if you also use flash then creating an flv would be the better option.

i. It would be a small file
ii. Plus being made specifically for the web would stream and play smoothly.

yea but my answer still hasn't been answered. i need the setting presets for the fcp video export to web. I figured it out, I used h.264 and i inserted keyframes every 150 frames, i set it for 800 kbps, and i set the video quality to a little bit over medium. wala, a 5 minute video under 100mb with near perfect quality at 320 x 240

I'm not sure the setting for fc5 for outputting to the web. When sending work out to clients I save it out of fc5 at the highest quality possible. Then open it in quicktime and export either as mpeg4 with the options below, or even better the export option called ipod.

mpeg 4 improved
800kbits
frame rate 30.
image size 352x288 cif
keyframe every 24

also enable streaming (since its for the web)
maximum packet size 1450 bytes
maximum packet duration 100 ms

With 100mb file limit you have more than enough.

Use the H.264 compressor. Set keyframes and data rates all to automatic. Quality to medium. Sound can be ACC, and at 22kHz, sound can be low res and still sound great.

There's a brand new book on the market, only 20 something dollars, but it's fantastic, will get you knowing the ins and outs of this subject like a pro in very little time.

Apple Pro Training Series; Compressor Quick-Reference Guide

Get it, you'll be glad you did.
