Car light dilemma

I am hoping someone can help me with a light dilemma.

I am working on a 15 minute short that is based on a dialog exchange between two individuals; Passenger and Driver. I have built rigs to catch the scenes on either the driver or passengers side mirrors. At this angle I can get both parties on screen at the same time. Now, the dilemma comes to lighting. I was wondering if anyone had any good wireless lighting ideas for filming in a moving car?

Thanks,
Lamb

Place any battery powered lighting source on the ground between the driver's seat and the passenger seat, at an angle between 45 and 90 (experiment around). That's what I did and I was happy with the result. My film was a crime drama though so the faces lit from below look worked for me, especially since I used it as a fill so the effect wasn't extreme.

Maybe it's too late to reply this question, but I think it would be better to share our experiences anytime :

I used small lights using 12 volt halogen lamps and used the car battery as electricity resource, using a special plug which is put in the lighter of the car. As you mentioned that the car is running, the battery would be suitable (as you know the battery works well as a resource while the car engine is running).
I put the lights on dashboards to reach to a suitable level and in a cross form to have a good angle: the driver's light in front of the passenger and vice versa.
But please remember : use a dimmer or some filters to soften the light and also reduce the hardness .

Good Luck

Litepanel

Litepanel

Litepanel lights work great because they are small, battery powered and dimable. You might rent one in the 5,600k range for this project and find a suitable place on the dash for it. At CinemaGadgets.com we have a lot of awesome gear for this kind of stuff. it depends on your budget of course but if you want to be able to do this kind of thing over and over again with no sweat, think about maybe one of the suction cups with the baby pin on it, then rig a litepanel style light to that,we also sell the kind of camera mounts you'll need to rig these cameras to the car. everything we sell can be rented at one of the rental houses if you are in the LA area of course check out wooden nickel or aaaagripandlighting.com

Mini Kino Kit

Mini Kino Kit

Where I work we have a small little Mini Kino Kit, which plugs directly into the car. They have little reflectors on them to help bounce the light, but the nice thing is that they are small enough you can gaff tape them to pretty much anywhere and they give you a nice soft light. I would look into a rental company to see if you can get one. They are fantastic!!!

However, they are only for night car scenes. During the day they are too weak to overpower the suns ambient light. Another solution is to rent a 2ft Kino kit, and get a converter to plug into your cigarette lighter and power them from there. The 4ft kinos are too big, but the two footers work great.

Hope that helps.
