Big Changes to RED's next gen cameras

RED recently announced some major changes to their designs on their next generation cameras. They also revealed more information on their DSMC camera system, or Digital Still and Motion Camera. This was not just minor design changes, but rather a major change in philosphy. The major change was that they are switching to a truly modular system. Rather than the original one Scarlet design with a fixed lens, now there are 4 different Scarlets. Two with 2/3" sensors, (one of which has a removeable lens), one with a super35mm sized 5K sensor, and one with a Full Frame 35mm image sensor at 6K. The prices range from $2500-$12000 for the "brain" alone. On the EPIC front, there are 4 new cameras here as well, ranging from a 5k Super35mm brain, a 6K Full Frame 35, a Medium format 645 sized 9K sensor to a huge 617 sized 28K image sensor. DSMC is not a camera, but rather a concept for all future RED cameras. The future RED cameras are intended to not only be great motion picture cameras but great still cameras as well. They are incredibly flexible in design with the modular system, so that they can look a lot like a good DSLR camera, all the way up to huge Cine camera setup. It might take a little while for people to realize all the possiblities that RED is offering, but this is huge!
