best digital camcorder under $1000 usd -- nikon d5100?

I know people love canon for film, but this camera looks like it has better specs. Also I am partial to nikon (for photos, but vids I have seen on this one looks great online)... I can get the t3i for same price give or take, should I?

so far, ive seen Canon do a better job with DSLR video than Nikon or Sony, also you can get this thing for canons to really mess with the controls
