    teleport

Or you could have the camera on a tripod, film, stop everything, have the actor walk offscreen, and then start everything back up and do something in post. I like the effect of a flash of light for teleportations, personally. To be honest, when someone glitters when they teleport it just looks bad.

    Making a crowd

That's a gorgeous shot, David. If it were to dolly/track down the stairs it would be even better, but I'm thinking that that would be hard to tripleshoot. Interesting note: in Monty Python's Life Of Brian, in the scene where there are thousands of people watching a preacher on a rock, and the...

    Trick filmography

For the two people standing far apart thing, you have a few issues. 1: Focus. Use deep focus so that everything is clear, so one person isn't clear and the other blurry. 2: Lighting. If one character has a stripe of light across his chest while the other character doesn't have it where it...

    Non-Linear Storytelling

A good idea is to put the plot in detail down on paper. Have all the major scenes there, and then decide how you'd like to organize them, and write the script with this in mind. Example: Movie A man goes to Las Vegas. He accidentally kills a hooker. He meets a group of people who can help...

Need Critiques for 12 page short script.

Re: At least you're writing Re: At least you're writing I edited this to make it readable (paragraphs), because it has good things to say.

Please critique my screenplay that I wrote for college apps

To be honest, the dialogue came off as fairly flat. In the beginning, the characters were not doing anything interesting, nor were they discussing anything interesting, and this basically carries on through the whole thing. The first scene is pretty good, where he's waking up, but the bit where...

    Making Realistic Newspaper Clippings

Well, you can always print on newspaper paper. It's sort of cheap, brown-ish paper, easily torn. That works.

Take Film of a Television Screen

My digital camera (a model I'm going to assume yours is similar to) lets me choose the frame rate from a small selection. Dropping the frame rate, I believe, to just below the television's, gets rid of the cascading, but then the image may be somewhat choppy. If you go higher, that may work...

    Shuffle game

I'm not saying you actually have to make the film, but this is a fun way to create ideas.

can you explain me how to write an editing concept ?

I think he's talking about stuff like CUT TO: EXT. BUILDING, DAY Birds scatter, then SPLITSCREEN, birds against building on right, bird against clouds on left. CUT TO: EXT. AIRPORT DAY Montage of planes taking off.

    Did You Have Fun Today?

I got to chase an actor down an alley with a camera on a dolly, I shot the same actor walking down the alley with the dolly, and then I played with the dolly while my actors ate lunch and produced about thirty Dolly Zooms of that alleyway. Dolly zooms are fun to make. Then I made more dolly...

    Shuffle game

This is actually something we kind of did in our film class, where each group drew one of 100 songs out of a hat and we had to make either a film inspired by it, or a music video of it. For example, my group drew "She's Too Good For Me", thus, we created a short film in which a guy fantasizes...

Lighting and such on a tight, tight budget.

If you want to be crafty, take some lamps, take the shades off, and make tinfoil light directors, making a cup around one half of the bulb so most of the light goes in one direction. Then, get one or more layers of wax paper and stick it to some two-by-fours to make a screen that diffuses the...

Kitchen Set For the House TV Series

That's very cool to see. I'd like to see more of this kind of thing.

    Director's Job

I don't know if they neccessarily need to go in that order, but I do know that if you don't pay attention to any one of those your film will be ruined. I forgot to pay attention to sound during my last film (high school movie), and when I put it together on the computer I realised that my chest...
