Wires sparking*

I am building the interior of a spacecraft for a short that might become a pilot for a feature length production. In the ship things go wrong and I would like to have wires sparking.
Any help would appreciated, Keith

Okay, I did a little more research on this and found some guys who used a car battery with a metal plate to make real sparks. Anyone else tried this?

Does that sound safe? or is it just me?

Wouldn't it be easier to add the sparks in post-production with a particle generator?

When I was involved in filming cutaway plot scenes for computer games. We used squibs and the like but from what I remember they were very costly, and if not dealt with carefully could be very dangerous :!:

Thanks for the feed back. I will talk to our film editor about this and see what he can do for us before we get to this point of filming. I just thought it would be fun to play with some real sparking, make the actor really jump…just kidding.
