A short movie tends to be in a narrative format, following the progress of your protagonist through the driving actions and conflicts he encounters. As far as most TV shows go, they don't usually follow this rule unless they are narrative shows.
A narrative show is different from a short in the fact that when watching a short an audience keeps watching...on television, commercial breaks ruin the flow of the narrative storyline, so action is usually required to want to make the viewer stay tuned to your channel and not to something else.
Other than that, if your show is narrative I haven't much advise other than my ability to answer any questions you have. I'm currently directing a show for PBS and My15, but unfortunately for this example, the show is a reality-show, and therefore has multiple cuts in a faster pace from multiple cameras, which usually aren't locked down and are pretty much always on the move.
I wish you luck, maybe with a bit more information about this show I could assist you with your directing choices.
Again, best of luck...
