The Countdown is on…
There’s a countdown for just about everything.
Countdowns tend to symbolize a certain level of acceptance, and willingness to welcome imminent change, marking the end of an era, and ushering in a radically new realization for the future.
Whether one welcomes the arrival of something new, or withdraws and hides from something unfamiliar and awkward; when the count drops to zero, one thing’s for sure, there’s no turning back.
On June 30th, the anticipation of a new tool arriving for indie-filmmakers reached a new high with the recent announcement that the Rebate for the Canon XL1s expired, prompting quite a few DV freaks in the forums to claim their Nostradamus-like predictions of Canon’s Holy Grail of HDVCAMS will be seen as truths in upcoming weeks, possibly at DVEXPO EAST. This particular countdown has been in effect for the past year. So, the level of intolerability is pretty high.
It’s always fun to speculate on the effects these new tools will have on the filmmaking community if and when announced, especially if it ends up in your hands. And for those of you who believe great things come in pairs, there’s rumor of a new sibling expected to accompany this new camera
(hint hint GL2 fans).
If this new camera materializes, proving to be even remotely close to the Eleanor that everyone’s been dreaming about, could it go so far as to make a significant impact on the filmmaking industry?
