I just thought I'd mention the DVD of this movie: you might not think much of the movie itself, but I found the director's commentary and the other extras really interesting, particularly the ways Rodriguez did the sets so cheaply and the comments on the benefits of HD and of doing multiple jobs on the same movie (e.g. as production designer, director, editor and DoP he didn't even need to design some of the sets until the movie was cut, as they were all greenscreen shots).
The downside, of course, is that some of the effects shots in the movie are very obviously greenscreen, so his money-saving tactics aren't entirely successful. But for those interested in doing expensive effects cheaply it's worth a look.
