prime lenses

can anyone tell me why its given this distinction?? I suspect its much like how we view things. A persons take on stuff may be considered a paradigm. Is the focal length divisable only by prime numbers?

I think prime means one and they are a single (one) focal length. Someone probably liked that prime means best and one and it just fit and started calling them primes.
