Hello,
I'm new to this forum, and new to buying video cameras in general. Also, it it worth buying an extended protection plan? I'm a complete newb. Any advice on what to look for would be greatly appreicated.

Do you mean the DVX 100b?

...and you'll have to define "top of the line" for you. A 4,000.00 USD standard definition videotape camcorder that was introduced in 2005 wouldn't probably jump to mind for anyone in the production industry based on the description.

There was an HVX 100 that was introduced a bit later that used P2 cards and recorded DVCProHD, but Panasonic doesn't make that camcorder anymore...and it was an entry-level unit when it was new, so again...we'd have to know more about your needs.

Kim asked about your budget, and I think that's an excellent place to start.
