This took me a week to make and 13 hours to render.
landscape video
1. I created 5 planes. put one in the centre and the remaining 4 around it. The centre plane had a noise map applied and displace modifier applied too. I raised it slightly to give it a bit of an unevenness. I then applied the turbosmooth modifier to cut out sharp peaks and edges.
2. For the hills I created a blank document in photoshop and used the paintbrush to apply white blobs, the brush thickness was very low, because i didnt want it to be completely white as this causes the mountatin to have a flat platform type peak. I imported the image into max and applied it to a displacement modifier. I brought the strength right up high and the hills where made.
3. I then used a simple 3d max tree and cloned it about 15 times and changed the seed on each tree so it didnt look the same.
4. I modelled the rocks using a sphere and edited the mesh. The clouds where made using box gismos and applying volumetric fog.
5. I used the vray light setting with shadows applied. The sun in the video was actually the omni light that lit the scene with a glow effect added.
6. The sky was made by covering the whole scene with a sphere and adding a 3 tone blue gradient ramp
