Hi,

I am a student filmmaker from Australia, i wish to get a decent camera, however i am not in the budget of RED One so...
I have been doing some research and have pulled up

Canon XL2
and
Sony HDR-FX1 (paranormal activity was shot on this)

and a few others,
what i am looking for is cheap but still able to get a decent picture that can blow up to reasonably good quality...

can anyone help?

Eh, why are you blowing it up? Do you already have distribution in place.
Is there any reason in particular that you are going the tape route?
Are you adversed to Panasonic or JVC?
Is there alot of motion in your story?
What is your final output medium or your distribution plan?

Just asking so I can be more informed about the particulars of your camera choices

I am just looking for one for any random porjects i wish to do
i would like it to have the ability to blow p well if the need arises and those ones came up because they were kinda cheap and shot pretty good quality,

another feature i am looking for is the ability to shoot 24p, i just prefer that to interlaced footage.

Im just looking for advice from anyone who could recommend a camera

Panasonic DVX 100a or b
or
Canon XL2

My reccomendation:
DVX has better color, blows up well (November, Lonesome Jim, Iraq in Fragments-the most beautiful blow up to date), and is, imho, the very best SD 24p camera.

I hate Sony cameras but that is just my opinion.

A camera is a tool, get the one you want!

why not go HD ?

why not go HD ?

if you can afford it:

panasonic: HVX-200
Sony EX-1

they are in the 5000 us dollar range.

Or 3800 used.

Where is a used EX1 for 3800 dollars that's not a scam or gray market? Because I'd by that right now!

Also, you have the HMC-150 or 40, or the Canon A1 both which are moderately priced.
