How to Get Your First Holiday Season Photography Clients

The Last Black Unicorn
The Winter Holidays are almost here. This time of the year is a great opportunity for artists to earn money. I’ve met a few photographers that were very talented, but they did not have professional gear, a studio or money to rent these two. What they did have, however, was imagination.

Today, social media is a great way to connect with potential customers. There are public discussion groups on Facebook, where people are asking for information regarding a good photographer. In the same groups, a photographer can interact with and message those people. On TikTok, you can find happy couples or mothers with children that might be interested in a Holiday-themed photo session.

I’ve met a few photographers that would use these websites to find customers. They would send messages and start a conversation. Then, they would book a time and date for the photoshoot. The next step was to rent the gear and studio for the photoshoot.

With this simple strategy, they managed to create their initial portfolio and scale up their customer base. After a while, it becomes easier because people start to like your work and you get many returning customers.

Don’t get demotivated if you don’t own professional gear or your own studio. There are still solutions that could work for you.

Social media is a great tool that our parents did not have. Today, you can easily make new connection on Facebook or Instagram and you can find volunteers for your portfolio. The idea that you wrote about, Maura, is very good and it proves that all you really need is initiative, hard work and determination to get started!
