How do I get better at photography?

I have previously started a debate, asking whether photography is a skill or a talent. Your insights have helped me understand that I do have a chance of becomming a good photographer if I work hard and study the art of photography.

With this in mind, I am asking for your advice once again. How do I get better at photography? What can I do to become a better photographer?

You need to understand your gear and its settings. If you want to be a good photographer, you need to know how to set up your camera fast, with the lighting conditions that you are presented with and the lens that you use. You need to know how to make the most out of each lens, too. Don't work with auto focus, avoid working with auto in general. Manual can help you more on the long run.
