Okay, well I bought an hp m8120n computer about 3 months ago and it is running windows xp and it has a tv tuner card and dvr and all that stuff. Well I use it for premiere pro and after effects currently, but I was thinking of stepping up to avid xpress pro. I read that Avid doesn't yet support vista. What should I do? I thought about getting XP Pro, but then I wouldn't be able to use the dvr function because that is through Windows Media Center. Does anyone have any advice they can give me? Does anyone have an idea when Vista will be supported? Thanks

First off, don't count on Vista getting support anytime soon... if ever. I'm assuming you mean you're running Windows XP Media Center. I don't know that Avid won't run on MC, but I would bet it won't, either at all or at least very well. I haven't run with MC ever, so I can't say for sure. If you absolutely feel you have to have the DVR capabilities and that they won't run in XP (using software besides Media Center), then buy yourself a second hard drive (and I'd reccommend a 3rd drive also, to use for your Media Drive) and set up a dual boot system with XP Pro and Media Center. This is beneficial to you too, since if all you use Pro for is editing you don't have to have a bunch of junk installed on your system sucking up resources that are better allocated to Avid.

Hope this helps,
