Has anybody required movie rights from John Williams? I would like to use a song from private ryan in my new short film.

I'm sure many people have. They've just paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for the rights. For a composer of his fame and notoriety, anything he writes has licensing fees through the roof.

For instance, to license Ennio Morricone's immortal theme to The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, you will be set back more than $500,000.

Of course, the fees depend on how well known the piece is, but you are still looking at upwards of $75,000-$100,000 to license one of Williams' Saving Private Ryan cues.

You would be better off getting one of the composers on this forum to write you an original piece of music.

Send me the song you wish to use and I will create a pastiche of it for half the price! [email protected]

Seriously send me the sample and I will see what I can do.

Best Regards,
