Hello,
My name is V.J. Manzo and I am a professor in the Music Department at Montclair State University. This fall, I will be having a class for our composers on the topic of film scoring.
It is my intention that this class be a forum for filmmakers to come in to the class with quicktime videos and have their films scored by one or more of our students. Having done much of this at NYU (where I earned my Master's), I see that this can be a valuable experience for both filmmakers and our student composers.
The reason I am writing is to see if there is a particular group of filmmakers who would want to take advantage of this. I do not know of any filmmakers in the MSU area, but would like to present our students with a number of short films (no longer than 15 - 20 minutes) that they can score. I assume that having your short film scored for free is something desirable. In February, we may have the opportunity to show these films as a presentation of the composers' work. This may also be an incentive to filmmakers.
Do you think you can help point me in the right direction toward getting some films to score? Feel free to forward this message to any young filmmakers you think would be interested. I'm looking to have a list of filmmakers names in a few weeks.
