Garage recording sound

Just guessing.....

Just guessing.....

Can someone tell us how did they get the sounds for this? Are they using lav mics and other mics? It just sounds to good for a garage recording, right?

Amazing video, no doubt. Some of the percussion was in dead sync, so I would guess that it was not completely recorded to sync playback. But the mix on the vocals and the swinging tubes seems too good to be true, and does not sound like it was just collected by one mic at the front of the garage, so here is how I would have done it. I would have pre-recorded and mixed most of the performance ahead of time in a studio. Then I would have live mic'd the two guys on the ends doing the soft percussions while we played back the first mix. That would allow us to hear with extreme sharpness what the two guys were doing, while still maintaining a perfect mix of the vocals and instrumentals.

I could be wrong. But however they did it is amazing!!!
