Hailing from Toronto and graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Film from York University in 1973, Irwin began his career with documentaries and TV productions. Irwin’s big break came when he collaborated with David Cronenberg on “Fast Company” in 1978, which led to a series of five more films, including “Scanners,” “The Dead Zone,” and “The Fly.” In 1987, he moved to Los Angeles and worked on a wide range of films such as “RoboCop 2,” “Scream,” “Old School,” and “There’s Something About Mary,” collaborating with acclaimed directors like Gil Cates, Wes Craven, Todd Phillips, and the Farrelley Brothers.

Throughout his illustrious career, Irwin has won Best Cinematography awards for “The Fly,” “Youngblood,” “The Dead Zone,” and “Videodrome.” His work has taken him to various locations, including Italy, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Canada, and the United States. Irwin’s impressive filmography showcases his immense talent and adaptability, making him a highly sought-after cinematographer in the industry.
