Hi i was wondering if there's anything important i'd need to know about documentary making. i want to make a small documentary about the trollies here in San Diego, CA. and about a few friends who do graffiti on them and around downtown.

any links or recommended reading would be great.

small tip - you have to remember with documentries that a lot of the sound will be done using voice overs so you will have to record those somehow.

Documentaries

I like to do documentaries that use little or no narration. As the previous post suggests, that means doing interviews, but it really can be more than that. If you can tell the story through the eyes of the people you interview, get their feelings about the subject, and get some emotion into your movie, then you have a chance of doing something with more impact than just an objective, narrator driven doc. Good luck. JimT
