Dr. Bob, question. what is a shotgun condenser mic, is this not like a regular mic, whats the difference? should i buy a shotgun condenser or a regular shotgun, which is better? thanks
"Condenser" describes how the mic picks up sound. (Condensers use a metal diaphragm next to a charged plate.)
"Shotgun" describes the polar pattern. (The polar pattern is the microphones pick-up range. An Omni mic has a pick-up range like a sphere. A Cardiod mic has a pick-up range like a mushroom. A Shotgun mic has a pick-up range like a broom handle.)
The odds are that you will usually work with condenser mics.
What you need to choose is the proper polar pattern for the given situation.

Here's a few articles on mics; they'll hopefully wipe away some of the fog.
