i know this is a 101 question. but it would mean a lot to me if you could help. i have everything edited in the timeline and finished.

i need to add static text to a section of my edit within the picture itself, i created text in the viewer section but it only applied to one frame.

how do i apply what i want on one frame to many frames, the same static text.

please please tell me step by step how to do this.

thanks guys.

god bless.

FCP Titles

FCP Titles

1. In the viewer, go to the pull down menu for text (the icon with a frame of film and the letter A in it) and select text. (From your post, you seem to have done this OK).

2. In the viewer, you should see a checkerboard pattern with "SAMPLE TEXT" in the middle. Note that the default length is 10 seconds. If that is OK leave it or adjust the length by moving the in and out markers.

3. Type in the text you wish to use using the Control Tab in the viewer.

4. On your time line, select the point at which you want the text to appear. Drag and drop your title into the timeline. It should be length that you choose in step 2. Note: If you determine the length in Step 2, you only need one IN marker in the time line. If, for instance, you have the in and out markers right next to each other, you will probably get your one frame instead of the length shown in the viewer.

The above will produce a title over black. If you wish to have it over a color, you have to create a separate time line and put a color in the V1 video track (do this the same way you select text but select matte instead text and then choose a color in Control Tab). Then you put your text in the second video track V2 and you will have you text matted over a color. If you wish to superimpose the text over video, put your video in video track one and your text in video track two.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have questions. JimT
