Audio at the Beach

I am going to shoot a short film that contains several scenes which are at the beach. I have the AT897 shotgun mic but there will still be considerate background noise. Are there any suggestions as to how to minimize the ocean sound and concentrate the audio on dialogue.
Would lavaliers do a better job?

Thanks

Depending on what your doing here are some tips:

1. If you have a sit down scene or limited movement. try hiding mic behind cooler or a pile of towels that might be alot closer than an overhead position.

2. If possible try and baffle high frequencies as much as possible. A baffle is a blocker, say a truck or the inside of a tent. If you are at the beach but in a tent. Hang blankets on the beach side. No one will see them and you can cut down on some of the ocean.

3. Get some lav mics! At least when they have a shirt on you can get some very acceptable sound.
