Apple's iFrame format/codec (?)

An apparently up and coming development in videography is a new codec called iFrame, introduced by Apple two years ago. It is supported on some recent consumer cameras, e.g., Panasonic HX-DC10 (960x540, 30fps.) and Canon Powershot SX230 (1280x720, 30fps).

It's an intra-frame codec, unlike standard AVC/AVCHD, which is an inter-frame codec, with delta frames. iFrame has been described as a form of AVC-Intra, but consumer level.

I'm wondering how much anyone knows about this, in particular, the comparative image quality vs AVCHD, MJPEG and HDV.
