flickering problems with fluorescent practical fixtures

and can I take just any regular household fluorescents or some kind of special ones? Are there any ones which are known to cause problems or any other traps, regarding the flickering issue, I could walk into? Thanks

flickering problems with fluorescent practical fixtures

Thanks already- but since Germany (where I'm located) is a 50Hz country would 172,8 degree be safe for 25fps at all camera speeds, too?

flickering problems with fluorescent practical fixtures

On an upcoming shoot I'm planning to use a lot of practicals, mainly fluorescent fixtures. The short's going to be shot on 35mm, 25fps, 172,8 degree shutter (since I'm from Europe - I guess it's different in the US). Can you give me any advice on how to keep the fluorescents from flickering...

    A newbie question!

Wether you can prevent your lights from spilling into the background naturally depends on how strong your light is (wattage) and how far the background is away - this is why e.g. it's always hard to light very tiny rooms, it's harder to seperate the actor from the background. And of course it'll...

    Diffusion Panels

The effect the diffusion gives you will be even stronger if it's a couple of feet away from the lamp. But- you need bigger pieces/frames of diffusion.

"Cell" - my last short film

We didn't use any filters on the camera. Of course we graded it in the post(AfterEffects): we used the curves tool, to give it a little more contrast, then we desaturated it almost down to black and white - we especially got rid of the reds which look bad on video most of the times. The we gave...

"Cell" - my last short film

we had a Canon XL-2 ( I'm not sure if it has the same name in the US) with the regular Canon Zoom lens which is always included in the camera package. And in front of that we had an SG Pro 35mm Adapter with a Nikon mount and 2 Nikon Zooms and one Nikon Prime. Pretty complicated, huh ;)?

"Cell" - my last short film

Thanks for the positive feedback! We did all the movements in the hotel room with a dolly on tracks - besides the 360 degree one. Since we couldn't just get the bed out of the room we had the actor sit like 7 feet in front of the bed on an applebox to which we also attached the microphone. Then...

"Cell" - my last short film

I hope it's the right place to post here. Anyway I'll just go ahead and tell you something about me and the project. I'm from Germany and still in Highschool ( I'm 18 ) and I was the cinematographer on this film. It was shot in Germany with a German crew and German actors in 2,5 days- still the...

    16mm film question

What kind of film stock u use for practising is just a question of what u want to do with it. If u want to practise how to correctly expose film u'd better take reversal stock, because reversal stock has a smaller latitude. This means u can't just under oder overexpose without even noticing...

    Backlights

Yeah I've noticed that, too. I think it's partly because of the angle the backlight hits the object, but it's the color, too. I've seen several scenes in films, that are set in an interior and lit by tungsten sources only which, of course, give the image a slightly warm feeling. Still, the...

Does anyone know anything about German Cinematography?

What exactly do you mean by a "German Cinematic style" ? I'm from Germany, and in Germany - just like in every other country - you can find many different cinematic approaches and styles as a result of different genres, storys, directors, cinemtographers, ... ? Be a little more specific - all...
