XH G1 Vs. XH A1: Bang vs. Buck?

Well, I'm on my way to college, and with that, I think it's time to take my filmmaking dreams to the next level. I'm done with the home video style cameras from Best Buy. Now, I have about $1500 under my belt, but I am going to save up for a few more months to see what I can get.

After looking through a lot of different options, and thinking about the cameras i have used before, I have decided I really like Canon's HD Camcorders the best. Having used a GL2 extensively for almost all of my shorts and little projects for 2 years, I feel very comfortable with using Canon products, and I have yet to have any issues with it.

So, I'm looking for a little bit of advice on this matter.

I really really like both the XH G1 and A1.. But the price gap seems to be rather big. I've found an A1 for around 1800 dollars, as opposed to the lowest G1 I found at around 3500 dollars.

And I've spent a lot of time on Canon's website looking at the specs of the 2, and i just can't decide whether all the superfantasical pretty features and addons are worth the money. Lest we forget, I am a college student, and an amateur filmmaker.

I'm very much leaning to the side of the A1 because it's cheaper, which means I can put more money into accessories, software and the like. I like it because I am an AMATEUR and I imagine it would be a very nice step up from a GL2, and at the same time I would be able to use it comprehensively.

I'd really appreciate it if some of you would take a look at the 2 cameras, and the features offered, and let me know what you think.

Keep Bang for Buck in Mind!

1st of all the site you found it at 1800 isnt a good store to buy it from... because they will try to sell you a bunch of shit that would be in the factory box and you will have to buy seperatly at an obscene price... probably the best deal i saw was about 2700 for the a1 and i know the big difference is the jack pack. which is great if your using a multi camera set up, but if your not its basically not needed. I believe it is to send the same time code to each camera so they will sync up and everything. Other than that the cameras are exactly the same. i think there maybe one more different thing but i am not sure
