Which camera to buy with $3000

Hi, in June I am gonna be purchasing a camera for a film I'll be making. I have a budget (or will have) a budget of at or around $3000 for the camera. I've been looking at the Canon Gl2. Would that be a good camera? Will I be able to obtain the "film-look" with that camera? If not, what other cameras would be good? Keep in mind that the film I'll be making first is a comedy/drama and wont require much visual "flair", but after that film I will be more complicated films visually, I.E. films that take place in the outdoors (and possibly nighttime) and such. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Ok, I just realized a could scrunge (eww) up $3500 for a camera, and now I'm wondering if I would be able to purchase somewhere a Canon XL2 in June. Thanks.
