Transparency and Images - Overlay Effect

I'm not looking for fancy effects, this is just for a game parody, and I'm TRYING to find out how to set transparency to my images to position them over scenes.

I haven't use Adobe for this yet, and I'm wondering how this can help me add effects to my film..

Adobe After Effects: Right click on a layer, and select Blending Mode.

Also, if you select the layer and press t, it will display the opacity of the layer.
