Hi everyone,

I recently finished a doc for a course I took using Vegas 6. But I do want to continue to work on it on my own using FCP 5. Is it possible for me to "transfer" the project file from one editing program to another? One way I thought of is to capture the film from my master DV to FCP, but then I would be getting just the film. Is there a way for me to manipulate some things to get the tracks I have from Vegas to FCP's sequences? Or once I have the film on DV, FCP will recognize the separate tracks that made up the film (ie: audio, music, two video tracks, etc)? I just started using these editing softwares, so I'm still fairly new at this.

Any help would be appreciated :)

the way to do this is through an EDL. You have to create one for each video layer in your project and then bring it across to FCP. You may loose some information, but the majority of it should still be there. Consider each video layer and 2 tracks to be one EDL source. I do not know Vegas software, but there should be some sort of export function that allows you to do this function.

In FCP, import the EDL. You will have to recapture the media again, but that is normal.

The EDL format that seems to work best is CMX 3600.

Good luck
