I have never done it... what tools do you need to use... is it different for Digi or film? and the most tricky one: how do you expose? lets´s say it implies a very dramatic change on the lighting. from hard sunlight to night.
Don't presume any knowledge, please.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

I have only done it myself on a Super-8 camera where the exposures were automatic, but calculating exposure is not hard -- basically you set the shutter speed to what you want. For example, at 1 fps, your max exposure time with a 180 degree shutter is 1/2 of a second, but with an intervelometer, you can select even shorter exposure times per frame depending on how much blur you want. So when you are talking about one frame every hour, obviously you wouldn't want the shutter open for a half-hour or longer, but would probably want something closer to the standard 1/48th shutter speed unless you wanted a lot of motion blur. I really don't know much more practically about this topic but I'm sure there are some websites devoted to the subject.
