The Flipside of Dominick Hide. BBC play 80’s

I just watched this very interesting 80’s television play.
It had low production values, but was captivating.
It had Peter Firth, as an explorer from our future, breaking the rules and landing his craft in the 1980’s.
He falls in love and is torn between two times.

I really liked the camera work.
Some unusual but appropriate techniques were used
One was the semi transparent overlay of different actors simultaneously to convey their attachment.
You could have used split screen or cross cutting…but this was very unusual.
Also an extended scene travelling in a car, it very was long... Normally not something you would do, but it conveyed the sense of fun and wonder that a stranger might gain from motoring in the countryside.

The funny thing is; that the music, clothes, fashions and attitudes are all very 80’s.
Normally that would work against a piece. Watching this play in 2009 only adds to it.

It’s possibly one of the most interesting stories I have ever seen.
Anyone else ever seen it, or have any thoughts on it?
