Super 8 Review

I love the whole idea of some kids all trying to be like George Lucas and make a movie on their own. This is a monster/alien movie. My all time favorite Monster was the first Alien but that might be because it attached itself to a face and laid an egg and then burst out of his guts. that started me off thinking this was def something from another world. and in alien i got to see the monster several times and up close. I like more of a bad guy monster. You get to see the bad guy lots of times and you just know he is a bad guy when you see him but you don't know how bad or what bad things he might do. I don't like a secret bad guy you can't see or know until the end.

The monster in Super 8 was revealed it seems in some sort of proven formula or theoretical systematic way that i am sure looks good on paper but for some reason it just didn't work in the theater. You see a little here and then a little of him there and then just an idea of his power and then finally in the climax of the movie we see the whole monster but really not the whole monster. Just the head and upper body are ever shown clearly. I guess the reasoning is based on the fear of the unknown and that is part of what the waiting to reveal the monster is about but i rather see some suspense behind knowing it is a really mean ugly bad monster but the protagonist has yet to find out.

I related to some of the infatuation with the cute older girl and the movie is entertaining with some funny parts of the kids acting up but it was not a moving experience for me. The acting is good. I like the spaceship concept but I think this is really more of a kids movie.
