sound recording with iMovie

i just finished shooting a short film and am probably going to need to re-record some dialogue in post.

i have a decent shotgun and am wondering if iMovie, which is my only editing software for the time, will allow me to record tracks directly into the program or do i need some sort of recording software?

any help is greatly appreciated.

Garageband might be able to do that.

how much does garageband cost? also (this may be a stupid question, but) is it compatible with Macs?

i guess this means iMovie cannot record sound?

garage band usually comes with ilife... so if you have imovie... you probably have garage band too.

sweet! it's my brother's computer that i'm using, so i don't know much about it. i hope he hasn't deleted garageband!

imovie works for sound

imovie works for sound

You can record voice overs in imovie. However garageband is probably better because it runs smother because it doesn't have to render video at the same time as the audio.
