Does the Sony PD-170 have 24P capability? I was under the impression that it was the only one currently out besides the DVX-100 that shot in 24P. I would be grateful for a reply.

Unfortunately, the NTSC version of the PD170 does not capture 24 progressive. However, the PAL version of the PD170 will capture at 25 progressive with higher vertical resolution, which can then be converted to 24P in post while retaining more clarity from initially acquiring in higher res. Sony has yet to implement "true" 24P in any consumer/prosumer cameras they manufacture, and that includes the recently announced HDR-FX1, which employs the same fake 24P "effect" as the little PC-350.

Many indie and pro DV films/commercials are shot in PAL, even though the infamous NTSC Panasonic AG-DVX100 has 24P, people are still insistent on using the PAL version for increased res.
