Real Newbie Here,

I am interested in creating a documentary style film of the production of an album we are beginning to record at my (audio recording) studio. I have some experience using imovie and have just upgraded to Final Cut Express. I am interested in the Sony - HVRA1U , and was looking for some input from the more experienced! the price point of around $2000 has led me to this choice... Any help is greatly appreciated! I am currently using a Panasonic PV GS-250 which is 3 ccd. Will the pic quality be much better with this Sony?

Thanks!

The upside of the A1 is that it's HD, the downside is that it's reportedly not very good in low light. In some respects the stills in good light actually look better than my Z1, probably because it has a single full-resolution CCD rather than three CCDs at a somewhat lower resultion.

The BBC have a short paper on the A1 at:

which might be of some use. There are some resolution charts and suggestions of how to set it up to give the best results.

Thanks for the input. I am very new to everything "film" but find it really really cool.... I have a very elaborate recording studio and am really interested in expanding into the audio side of film as well as experimenting in making art with video. I have a really interesting project that will begin in October and think I'd like to integrate a documentary style film project while i do the actual album for a very talented singer songwriter.
I have used a Cannon GL2 and thought that was pretty nice also. Thanks for the link and taking the time to help!

Peas Awht !
