Screenwriting Softwares????

Everyone!!!

I am currently using Sophocles to write my scripts but was researching for a better program.

I have looked at Movie Outline, Scriptware, Movie Magic Screenwriter and Final Draft.

I do like Sophocles but it seems not to be the software used in the industry. I like that for example, I can hit <ctrl> I and it will automatically put everything in caps lock and write out INT. or if I put an open parenthesis underneath the character's name, it knows what to do & once I put the end parenthesis, it automatically goes to the next line for the character's dialog; however, if I decide to change a character's name, I have to go through the whole script and do it. It doesn't have a find and replace option nor does it just automatically know that I want to change that character's name and change it automatically for me.

It seems to be a toss up between MMS and Final Draft as far as what the industry is using but I've heard and read pros and cons about both, not sure what to do. Please advise!!!

Interesting question! Last time I heavily participated in comparing software programs [within forum strings] in terms of "which is better [will help you get the job done geek-style, with way cooler, way more user-friendly, way more useful shortcuts that can allow you to perform advanced-level magic tricks in seconds]," was when discussing other kinds of programs not related, such as image editors.

I have all three - Movie Magic Screenwriter, Movie Outline, and Final Draft.

Having calmed down a bit from participating in "software wars" conversation, really the first thing that comes to mind that's most important for me right now is actually "writing the story". When I used to be one that refuses to hand-write anything, I'm willing to write any stories with an obtuse tip, non-number 2 pencil on toilet paper. As long as I can get the story.

I'm currently working on sample scripts for our screenwriting contest's webpage. Maybe after I finish those, I'll get into "which software" because I do love technology and talking about it.

Celtx As Good As Final Draft

Celtx As Good As Final Draft

I have been using Final Draft for going on six years now. I was introduced to Celtx a few days ago and decided to check it out. The truth is, it's amazing what they are doing with open source these days. When I used Celtx, it was very reminiscent of Final Draft. If you are comfortable with it and don't want to purchase the Final Draft software, I highly recommend this as an easier alternative.
