Referencing character surname in a character?

I’m working on a horror screenplay and I wanted to give one of the main characters the same last name as a character from one of my favorite movies as a reference (The film is The Jacket (2005) if that makes any difference). The last name is fairly average, so is it fine if I use it for the character in my film?

Yup. As long as it doesn't cause confusion with other characters. Or if you keep vacillating from first to last names
