proper/modern term for "video camera"

Do people still refer to digital video cameras as "video cameras"? Or is there a better, more common term now, like camcorder?

Obviously I'm not a film person -- this is for a book! I don't want it to sound dated if I use the term "video camera".

Thanks in advance.

Technically, the camera is only the part that actually collects the image. A video camera needs a video tape recorder (VTR) to actually put the image on tape. Camcorders are actually a combination video camera and VTR, but most people just refer to them as video cameras anyway. It all depends on how much you're concerned with the semantics of it.
