Old School Editing help required

Hello,

I just finished shooting my first film using a Canon Scoopic 16mm camera and Kodak Plus-X ASA 50 film. The film class I am in wont allow us to transfer the film and edit it digitally, we have to do everything old school (splicer, steenbeck, moviola etc.). My problem is that my film is seriously underexposed in places (I do not have time to reshoot it), is there any way to correct this? Or should I just edit it into some sort of montage? Should I attempt to scratch and or add color to the film?

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Dears

I know he shot some 16mm. you might get a faster answer from him than here. I know he is on a shoot do there is no guarantee but I am pretty sure he would have some good input.

Hey man, I work only with 16mm film at my school

This is what you've got to do..

When you developed your reversal film... you got just your one print right?

So this is what you do, if you've got to make a master print, you ask the lab to push the film 2-3 stops

Pushing the film will get you that exposure that you missed when you originaly exposed.... it will turn out more grany, but atleast you'll have an image..

SO Push 2-3 stops!!!

if you are only working with your Workprint, give your film back to the lab, and ask for a new workprint PUSHED 2-3 stops....

but next time, try and use Negative film, it helps alot, and it gives better then Reversal film.... reversal, you get screwed, cause its the only print you got!

Thats it man, hope you get to do what you need to do in time

OH and also, if you've only seen your film on a Steenbeck, then dont worry, because it is much darker on there then on a projector.... so it might not be the end of the world.....

Try and project your film before you edit see what the image looks like...

PS, ANY 16mm film questions, ask me... I hate to say it, but I know it all -_- lol!

Thanks for the advice....I wound up getting special permission to re-shoot it.

Unfortuantely we do not have direct contact with the lab, I go to school in Windsor and they ship the film to a lab in Detroit to be processed...we also don't really have any say in what kind of film we use...the TA's generally speaking know about as much as the students do...maybe that is why U of Windsor is ranked number 11 in Macleans!

Thanks again...and seriously can I e-mail you if I have other 16mm questions?
